About the Business
During our building careers, my father and I both worked on housing sites, mainly building in natural stone. Neither of us could see a future in this type of work, and we became unsettled. During that time we also used to carry out small private works, as we were both self-employed, and most of this work was for local people in the area where we lived. Gradually we became known for carrying out small repairs and building works, and we decided that we would both give up the housing sites and try to go out on our own.
This big decision was made in May 1974, and we set up as R&T Stacey Building Contractors. Our first year exceeded all expectations, and we were soon in a position where we required more assistance. By 1980 we employed two additional tradesmen and one general labourer.
We carried on expanding and began to get involved in larger contracts, many being barn conversions, large extensions and major renovations.
